About Joseph

Previously known as Joe Bichard

Joseph is an animation director and motion designer with fifteen years of experience making work that means something, exploring human stories.

He's directed films, commercials and charity commissions for some of the world's best studios, and now runs Oh Studio, a remote studio built around a progressive ethos and a commitment to human stories.

Style's optional. Story isn't.

He runs SELAPD (South East London Animation People Drinks), an animation community get-together in South London. Open to all. Come on down! :-)

Selected Works

MARS! 2010 - short animated film co-directed with Jack Cunningham - Screened at Pictoplasma, LIAFF, Annecy and more. Won a Royal Television Society Award. Awarded Vimeo Staff Pick.

DEAD… 2013 - short animated film written and made by Joseph. Screened at Annecy in 2014. Awarded Vimeo Staff Pick. 

The Walgeist & Me, 2014 - short animated film written and made by Joseph. Screened at many festivals including, LIAFF, Pictoplasma, Anim’est. Received a special mention at St Petersburg’s Message2Man festival. Awarded Vimeo Staff Pick. 

Pet Portrait Music Video, 2015 - a music video made with live action puppets, written and directed by Joseph.

A Kiss Deferred, 2016 - directed by Margaux Scanatovits at Moth Studio. Joseph was lead animator. It won the Annecy Cristal in the commissioned film category. Awarded Vimeo Staff Pick.

A Self Compassion Exercise, 2016 - written by Alain De Botton, directed and made by Joseph. Was also screened at Annecy 2016 and Pictoplasma. Awarded Vimeo Staff Pick. 2.5 million views on Youtube.

PBS Kids - Community - 2019 - animation director and designer. Joseph worked closely with Bruce Alcock to make these fun kids films that has a focus on community.

Ask Me How I Am, 2023 - co-directed with Zan Barberon. Screened at Soho Independent Film Festival, Kaboom, Manchester Animation Festival. Received an honourable mention at Soho Independent Film festival and was nominated for a British Animation Award in the Social Good category.

Eyes on Porn, 2024 - written by Alan Walsh, directed and made by Joseph for children’s charity Tender. Winner of an award at Manchester Animation Festival.
